Tangible Data Sculptures
Tangible Data is recent work-in-progress exploring ways of developing physically tangible representations of complex data sets.
Digital maquettes are developed for 3D printing and casting technologies, intended for large-scale public sculpture. The first works in this series explore 'real-world' datasets, such as geophysical and planetary data. As I progress the work, of particular interest to me are physical representations of abstract high-dimensional data, which are often conceptually difficult and 'in reality' impossible to see or touch. Tangible realisations of data facilitate a direct experience of high-dimensional space via the high-dimensional actions of touch, proxemics, kinaesthesis and stereopsis. |
